Building of The Beast

Row Crop

How The Trojan Mulcher is Manufactured

The TTQ Trojan mulcher is, without doubt, the strongest and best row crop mulcher available anywhere in the world. It truly is a beast of a machine. Coming in at twice the weight of many of its competitors, and heavier than all others, it takes a fair effort to manufacture.

But the weight is there for very good reasons – without an incredibly solid frame, the machine wouldn’t be as stable at full operating speeds. If we didn’t use heavy duty bearings, a very high horsepower gearbox and a greater number of flails, the job it does just wouldn’t be nearly as good.

And it wouldn’t last very long!

Here are some pictures of a machine being manufactured in our facility in Toowoomba – you can see the level of detail that goes into it and the scale of everything we use.

As you can see, we use a pretty substantial jig to set the frame up. It needs to have a very strong base so that we can maintain a high level of accuracy as the 2.5 tonne (5500 lbs) main frame gets fabricated.

It is a giant jigsaw puzzle that just happens to be so heavy that almost all the component parts have to be craned into place.

Once the fabrication is complete it is time to weld it out – and this needs to be a very precise job. Too much heat in the wrong place will cause the frame to bend out of shape.

The frame needs to be constantly spun around to give the welders access to put the right welds in the right place – that obviously isn’t easy!
